Counselling and Peer Support Groups

Adult Counselling Service

We provide 1-1 counselling support for adults who are suffering with stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low mood or emotional distress. We listen in a non judgemental way, providing a safe and confidential place to talk.

By helping you explore your emotions and feelings, counselling helps you understand your own, and other peoples’ behaviour. Our trained counsellors help you with coping skills to deal with life events, stresses and daily challenges.

Our counsellors support you, and each session provides an opportunity to talk confidentially on a one to one basis.

Our counsellors are trained and are supervised in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Code of Ethics & Standards.

Wiltshire Mind provides our counselling service at a reasonable cost, and a donation is requested of between £15 and £30 per session where affordable.

Young People’s Counselling

In January 2019 we launched our new Young People’s Counselling Service which provides support to those aged 11+.  This is offered two afternoons/evenings a week in Melksham.

“You in Mind” Peer Support Groups

Due to the current coronavirus situation, we’ve made the difficult decision to suspend all local support group activities. Your health and wellbeing is of the utmost importance during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we want to carry on observing the government’s social distancing rules at this time.

We are continuously reviewing the situation, taking into account the latest government advice on social distancing. We are striving to reinstate local support group activity in December 2020. During this time, we are evaluating the potential to operate these groups using digital technology, such as Zoom. If you are interested in attending a virtual support group – please contact us today.

Peer support is when people use their own experiences to help each other. There are different types of peer support, but they all aim to:

  • bring together people with shared experiences to support each other
  • provide a space where you feel accepted and understood
  • treat everyone’s experiences as being equally important
  • involve both giving and receiving support.

We provide Support groups across the country at 7 different centre locations: Melksham, Chippenham, Devizes, Malmesbury, Salisbury, Tidworth and Trowbridge.

The weekly sessions provide a safe, friendly place where anyone can find support and friendship.

Each Centre is open for 3 hours per week and is staffed by a part time sessional Centre Manager and a number of volunteer Support Workers.

These sessions are very well attended and a provide a lifeline to those suffering with their mental health and may be feeling isolated.

Most recently groups have taken part in activities ranging from art and dance to nutrition education.  It is hoped that many more activities can be funded to so these groups remain fresh and of value to attendees.

Clients contribute a small amount per visit towards costs and have an opportunity to shape the outcomes of the sessions.
