Counselling
We offer low cost counselling to anyone who is experiencing mental or emotional distress. If you suffer with stress, anxiety, depression, low self esteem or any other issues that affect your day to day living, then counselling provides an effective way of dealing with these problems.
As an organisation we believe that individuals should be empowered to make their own decisions. By making this a self referral process this allows the individual to take control of their recovery and path forward.
We offer 12 weekly sessions at a minimum cost of £10 per session.
Wiltshire Mind offers one to one counselling for people living in Wiltshire. The service is currently provided by a team of qualified and volunteer counsellors. We work within the Ethical Framework of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. (BACP)
What is counselling?
Counselling provides skilled listening in a safe and confidential environment to enable discussion of deep and sensitive issues which can emerge over time in an atmosphere of trust.
It is a time to explore your situation and look at your options. To provide someone to listen to you in a non-judgemental way. A chance for you to draw on your own strengths and resources and to find a solution that works best for you.
The purpose of the counselling process is to allow us to explore emotional difficulties in a way that opens up opportunities for a more resourceful and satisfying way of life.
Your counselling at Wiltshire Mind will take place once a week, lasting 50 minutes. The appointments will always start and end on time.
Counselling is usually provided in English. If you need an alternate first language, contact us and see if we can provide an interpreter or if we have a counsellor speaking that language.
The assessment appointment
You will be asked to attend an assessment appointment first so that you and the assessment-counsellor can decide whether counselling is suitable for you, also to assess your needs and how these can be best met. .
During the assessment you will be asked about your reasons for seeking counselling and to explain briefly about your life events and your present worries/concerns.
The initial assessment is free of charge.
What if the assessment-counsellor doesn't think counselling could help me?
The assessment-counsellor will listen carefully and think about whether the Counselling Service at Wiltshire Mind is the right service for you - if not, we will help you find something more appropriate.
Wiltshire Mind will help you find any other relevant services and organisations that may be able to help.
Referral to a Counsellor
There may be a waiting list to see a counsellor. If you can be flexible about when you can be seen, you will be allocated a counsellor more quickly.
If you and the assessment-counsellor are in agreement that counselling could be helpful you will be referred to one of our counsellors. It can take three or four weeks after your assessment appointment for a counsellor to offer you an appointment.
Counsellors
Our counselling team is made up of Qualified counsellors and volunteers who have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau and meet for regular supervision.
Many of our counsellors are in the final years of their training as counsellors. They donate their time as part of their training, and this allows us to offer counselling at a reduced fee .
You will always meet with the same counsellor.
